Geneva Motor Show 2018: Here’s Our Swiss Digest

Once again the Geneva Motor Show has been and gone, leaving us to peruse the latest automotive offerings and work out what is likely to be hot, or not. It’s easy to get carried away with the exciting stuff like the carbon fibre McLaren Senna - 211mph and around £1.6million - or the even more hardcore than before Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Equally it’s impossible to ignore the Pal-V Liberty that is being billed as the World’s first commercial flying car - we kid you not, although we can think of more practical ways to spend £440k.

No matter which part of the UK you have chosen to call home there will be one thing that you share with every other road user in the country. Potholes. The RAC released their latest Pothole Index at the end of January and the news is not good for drivers. A total of 2,830 RAC individual member breakdowns were logged between October and December 2017 where vehicles had broken down due to damaged shock absorbers, broken suspension springs or distorted wheels, likely due to poor quality road surfaces.

If 2018 continues in the same vein as 2017 then the must have accessory will be a compact crossover of some kind. Something like the Toyota C-HR for example. C-HR stands for Coupe-High Rider, which goes some way to explaining the sleek look of the Toyota. It certainly stands out as very contemporary compared to some of the more pedestrian examples on the road.

It may be hard to believe but the Mitsubishi L200 pickup is forty years old this year. In that time it’s proved indispensable to generations of farmers, builders, and numerous other trades. Even Kate Humble drives an L200 when she’s out watching Autumn, or whichever season happens to be occurring at the time.
