Electrifying new BMW X5

New Launches

SUVs are probably the most desired cars you can lease right now. They come in all shapes and sizes, but the SUVs that really stand out are the top of the range. They're the all-singing, all-dancing, premium brand SUVs.

Which brings us neatly on to the brand new, replete with both bells and whistles, BMW X5 xDrive45e.

Not only does it tick the premium box, this new version adds more hybrid power to BMW's SUV range to make the all-new X5 cleaner, faster, quieter, more powerful, and more efficient. If you are looking to lease a new SUV there isn't really a reason not to give the big BMW some serious consideration.

The new Hybrid X5 combines a model-specific six-cylinder, twin turbo petrol engine with the very latest BMW eDrive technology. Improvements in the hybrid system feature increased power and increased electric range, along with a significant reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 levels when compared to the outgoing model.

The new BMW X5 xDrive45e can cover 54 miles on electricity alone, more than three times as far as the last X5.

Meanwhile fuel consumption and CO2 emissions have been almost halved. The fuel consumption figures are now up to an incredible 235mpg with CO2 emissions reduced to 39g/km.

The amazing part about those numbers is that you wouldn't expect them. The BMW X5 xDrive45e isn't just clean and efficient. It also boasts a 3.0-litre, 286bhp six-cylinder petrol engine alongside the 113hp electric motor and a more powerful 24kWh lithium-ion battery. The end result is a peak power output of 394hp with a maximum torque of 600Nm. Add the latest generation eight-speed Steptronic transmission and the intelligent all-wheel-drive BMW xDrive system and you get a 5.6 second sprint from zero to 62mph – over a second faster than the predecessor model - and a top speed of 146mph.

BMW X5's interior - step into luxury

It's also clever and comfortable. The new BMW X5 xDrive45e is fitted with air suspension and electronically controlled dampers to smooth out the roads, in addition to a comprehensive suite of intelligent connectivity features and digital services. The entire X5 range of driver aids is also available in the hybrid versions. The only downside seems to be a slightly smaller boot capacity due to the batteries using a bit of the space, although that's outweighed by underfloor batteries lowering the centre of gravity, which should improve the handling over the regular X5 and make it even more comfortable.

As you would expect from BMW the interior is nicely finished and furnished too. There's a whole host of leather options for the electrically adjustable and heated sports seats, or for the optional multifunctional front comfort seats, including massage function and seat ventilation within the Comfort/Comfort Plus packages. The X5 also offers four-zone air conditioning system and Skylounge panoramic glass roof, which includes 15,000 graphic patterns to generate a display reminiscent of a starlit sky, a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 20 speakers and 1,500-watt output, rear-seat entertainment system with 10.2-inch full-HD 1080p touchscreen displays, a Blu-ray-compatible DVD player, two USB ports, an HDMI socket and two headphone jacks. Phew!

You could even specify heated and cooled cupholders in the centre console. You also get the usual array of driver and comfort aids that come as standard on a premium SUV.

In other words it's a comfortable, luxurious, quiet and refined place to sit while you waft along saving money on your fuel bills. When you put it like that you can see why the new BMW X5 xDrive45e is likely to be a very popular lease choice for quite some time to come.
