New vans arriving in 2020

New Vans for 2020

If the time to replace your current van is rapidly approaching then you might be starting to think about leasing a replacement. You wouldn’t be alone either. While the car market is having a bit of a stutter, the van market remains strong with figures up over 6% in January alone.

It stands to reason that with a strong van market manufacturers are beavering away on the next models to roll off the production line. There are a host of new models of all shapes and sizes heading your way in 2020, from small electric city vans to full-sized vans.

If you’re looking for a new van for your business, or even your very first van for business, then we’ve got a few highlights of what you could be driving in the next few months.

There are quite a few contenders to consider for your next van lease, although in fairness a great many of these vans are the result of various collaborations and are often all based on the same platform. But that means choice and more opportunities for better van lease deals.

So what new vans can we expect in 2020?

Volkswagen Caddy

Volkswagen Caddy

There’s a new Volkswagen Caddy on the way towards the end of the year which will be based on the same MQB platform as everything else from the VW Golf to the Skoda Kodiaq. It’s also likely to form the base of the next Ford Transit Connect too. There aren’t too many details on this one yet but given it’s a VW you can expect the usual high level of quality, reliability and comfort.

Nissan NV250

New Nissan NV250

Nissan has tweaked the Renault Kangoo to create the new NV250 small van to replace the standalone NV200 model. The NV250 will offer a lot more variation than the outgoing model and has a higher payload. There are also more conversion options which may well draw the attention of a few more specialist businesses to the Nissan. This new model will sit alongside the current e-NV200 electric van which remains unchanged for now.

Toyota Proace City

New Toyota Proace City

Toyota officially unveiled the new Proace City van at the CV Show last year but it will be some time this year before they start to appear on the road. Based on the same platform as the Citroen Berlingo, Peugeot Partner and Vauxhall Combo (we told you there are a lot of collaborations in the van business), the Proace is nicely styled and packed full of technology. There won’t be much difference in terms of driving experience and practicality compared to the others but the Toyota does boast a five-year warranty and a very competitive list of standard equipment.

Renault Kangoo ZE

Renault Kangoo ZE Concept

Renault has also been working on a new electric van based on the Kangoo ZE. It would probably be doing them a disservice to say it’s basically a Kangoo car with the rear seats removed and the windows blocked off, but you get the point. What is worth noting is that Renault has kept a lot of the car-like design features which should make the Kangoo ZE van stand out in a crowded market. It also features some great design touches that distinguish it from the non-electric Kangoo range.

At the front it features a fully transparent glazed grille that houses a brand new lighting signature. It is characterised by a line running between the two C-shape lights and surrounding the Renault logo in the middle of the nose. This new lighting signature will be the visual identity for Renault electric vehicles and it’s a really nice touch that almost makes you forget it’s on a van.

There’s also an illuminated line beginning at the rear logo that wraps around the rear and down the sides of the van where it ends as part of the flush door handles. It won’t make the slightest bit of difference to the practicality but it will make your business stand out as you drive around town.

VW Transporter T6.1

In terms of large vans the main highlight for 2020 is the brand new VW Transporter T6.1. It’s the latest version of the T6 Transporter range and was first seen on the California Camper last year before making the move the rest of the range. It features an exterior makeover that not only maintains the contemporary look but also increases cooling capacity for a revised selection of engines. The interior is now very car-like and can be specified with some very large digital screens and the latest VW infotainment system. While it may not be the cheapest option in terms of vans it’s certainly one of the best.

So what will you lease for your next van?

This is not an exhaustive list of new vans in any way. These are just a few highlights of what’s coming down the road and there will be more to follow as the year progresses.
