New Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer is Lighter, Longer and Better Than Ever

 Published 24th April 2017
New Launches

Back in 2009 the Vauxhall Insignia won European Car of the Year by a single point. Fast forward to 2017 and the completely redesigned Insignia Sports Tourer is aiming to increase that winning margin. Longer and lighter than the previous generation the new Insignia Sports Tourer was designed with efficiency in mind.

Making it longer has improved practicality considerably. At 1665 litres the boot has grown to over 2m long and has more than 125 extra litres of space than before. It's also slightly wider to make loading and unloading easier, and the option of Keyless Entry means you can just wave your foot around under the bumper to open the tailgate rather than put down whatever it is you're carrying.

Despite the additional size the new Insignia Sports Tourer has been crafted to appear athletic and agile. The wheelbase may be longer but the front and rear overhang has been reduced which adds to the perception of a much smaller car. The sleek new grille with IntelliLux LED lights and the clean lines of the Insignia enhance the feel of high-quality design.

As well as additional boot space the increased size of the Insignia Sports Tourer has also given Vauxhall the opportunity to improve the feeling of comfort with a larger cabin that provides occupants with more room to relax. Add heated seats front and rear, a massage option for the driver's seat, Smartphone integration, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and Vauxhall's new Personal Assistant service to book your hotel rooms, and you could easily do away with an office entirely.

Saving weight by using lighter materials has allowed Vauxhall to cram more technology into the car whilst still improving fuel efficiency. The new Insignia Sports Tourer can be tailored to include intelligent all-wheel drive, an 8-speed automatic transmission, and adjustable driving modes that adapt steering, throttle response and suspension. Saving weight means that despite the addition of all the new technology the new Insignia Sports Tourer still manages to achieve solid emissions figures.

Available with a 2.0-litre Turbo Diesel that generates 139g/km or 144g/km with either manual or automatic transmission, or two 1.5-litre Petrol versions that both come in under 140g/km. For those looking for a little more performance there is also a 2.0-litre version that generates around 250bhp but even that manages to produce just 199g/km. With relatively sensible CO2 figures and list prices starting from around £18,600 the new Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer offers great practicality at a very affordable level – so expect competitive car leasing prices.
