Once upon a time - before the invention of the SUV, the crossover SUV, the city car, you get the idea - choosing a lease car used to be easy.

Amidst the overwhelming variety on the road the humble hatchback remains the best choice for most people thanks to its balance of overall practicality and reasonable running costs. And if you are one of the many looking to lease a new hatchback it's hard to go wrong with the current Peugeot 208 range.

Great looks, a range of engine and trim options, great value for money, and their slightly sporty feel means you usually get lots of fun thrown in for free too. This particular version of the Peugeot 208 has been around for a couple of years now and given the number of awards it has won it seems to be a popular choice.

Now Peugeot has updated the 208 with enhanced specification and new trim options there's even more reason to lease one for yourself.

Enhanced specifications for updated 208

The new model line-up is available to order now, with Active Premium+ and Allure Premium+ models replacing the outgoing Active Premium and Allure Premium versions. The best part is that you get the enhanced specification without having to pay a single penny more than the old car would cost.

Entry level Active Premium+ models now come with tinted rear and rear side windows for an even more stylish appearance. For greater comfort and convenience, all Active Premium+ models now come with automatic windscreen wipers and automatic air conditioning fitted as standard.

Upgrade to the Allure Premium+ and you can add the Aluminium Pack, which adds a contemporary aluminium finish on the pedals and front door sills. On the inside, Allure Premium+ models now feature a new 7-inch touchscreen with connected 3D Navigation. This forms part of the updated i-Cockpit, which also consists of a compact multi-function steering wheel and configurable 3D head-up digital instrument panel.

GT and GT Premium variants remain the same as the old models, presumably because they're already kitted out with all the options you could possibly want.

The updated Peugeot 208 range is available to lease with petrol, diesel, or fully electric powertrains, giving you the choice to find the option best suited to your needs. In addition to advanced 1.2-litre PureTech petrol engines and an efficient 1.5L BlueHDi diesel, an increasingly popular option is the zero-emission e-208, which is powered by a 50kWh battery and 100kW electric motor for up to 225 miles of range. There's even a new eight-speed automatic gearbox option that can further enhance the feel and efficiency of the car regardless of whether it's bolted to an engine or an electric motor.

Peugeot has always been good at making great little hatchbacks. The updated 208 range simply carries on that tradition.
