The new MG3 gives you the best of five worlds

New Launches

Choice is a deceptively simple word: lots of choice is good, having no choice at all is bad. A wide range of options gives us control over our own decisions, but having plenty of options makes reaching those decisions more complicated. You could wrack your brain for weeks, or you could simplify the whole process and lease five cars in one in the shape of the brand-new MG3.

The all-new MG3 is a technologically advanced hybrid supermini, offering a combination of performance, efficiency, and refinement. Two specifications will be available in the UK at launch, each sharing the all-new Hybrid+ powertrain.

While it’s certainly not the only selling point of the new MG3, that new hybrid powertrain really is very clever and it’s why you should seriously consider leasing the new MG3 for yourself.

MG’s Hybrid+ powertrain technology is the first conventional, non plug-in hybrid system fitted to an MG model. It features a 1.5-litre petrol engine combined with an electric motor that together produce a very unexpected 230bhp. That makes the new MG3 the fastest accelerating model in its particular corner of the market – hitting 60mph takes around 8 seconds – whilst still managing to return 64mpg and 100g/km of CO2.

That’s not the clever bit though.

The all-new MG3 boasts a separate generator motor with a wide variety of powertrain operating modes. This not only gives it those class-leading performance figures, but also allows for flexible running with five different drive modes, hence the choice of five cars in one. The driving mode is automatically selected by the hybrid system so it can switch seamlessly between them without you having to make any decisions at all.

This clever system allows the MG3 to operate as an EV running on electric power only with no input from the engine. In Series mode it behaves like a full-hybrid with the engine powering the generator and the car being driven purely by the electric motor. Series and Charge mode takes drive power from the generator but also sends a little bit of electricity to the battery to keep it topped up. Drive and Charge works in a similar way but in this mode the engine drives the wheels and the generator charges the battery. Finally, Parallel mode sends all the power of the engine and the electric motor to the wheels for maximum power.

That combination of modes gives the MG3 the flexibility to offer a blend of maximum performance and maximum efficiency at all times.

On top of the impressive hybrid system, the brand-new MG3 also comes with lots of other tempting features.

Redesigned from the ground up, the MG3 is now both longer and wider than the outgoing model, creating a bigger interior as well as offering the largest boot space in the hybrid B-segment. The new range also offers plenty of other choices in the shape of alloy wheels, LED headlights, and six new paint schemes to pick from.

The all-new MG3 comes in two specifications for UK drivers – SE and Trophy.

Both feature a twin-screen cockpit with 7-inch digital instrument screen, as well as a 10.25-inch central infotainment system. Satellite navigation is fitted as standard, as is smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay/Android Auto for a premium feel. SE specification also includes air conditioning, a six-speaker audio system, four USB ports, and rear parking sensors and camera. Trophy trim levels add leather-style upholstery, keyless entry, heated front seats and steering wheel, and 360-degree camera.

Beneath the redesigned surface, the new MG3 also boasts the latest safety systems, including Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Traffic Jam Assist.

The brand-new MG3 supermini really has an awful lot to offer.

It’s more spacious than the outgoing model but still compact enough to make perfect sense for urban driving. It boasts a great specification with loads of useful technology as standard, and that clever hybrid system gives you a great balance of performance and efficiency at all times.

Leasing a new car can be a complicated decision, or you could just get a new MG3 and tick a whole load of boxes in one go.
