Kia starts 2022 top of the table

Kia UK ended January as the UK's best-selling new car brand, the first time this has been achieved in the manufacturer's 30-year history of selling in this country. Fleet and business customers have significantly helped this achievement, as the manufacturer continues to go from strength to strength.

Gateway2Lease is one of a handful of leasing providers that works directly with Kia, contributing to more than 10,500 units from the Korean brand sold in January. That's the company's highest ever January sales total, and almost one in five units sold were pure-electric models.

Here we highlight Kia's top business options.

Kia EV6

Kia EV6

The latest in an extensive electrified line-up from Kia, and instantly one of the best cars available today. To prove our point, it's the What Car? Car of the Year 2022.

The EV6 is built on a tailored EV platform, which means it has a huge driving range of 328 miles on a charge. It can also replenish much of that range in less than 20 minutes thanks to ultra-rapid charging.

The spacious crossover looks good, performs well, offers little-to-no compromise over an internal combustion car, and has the financial benefits EVs bring - zero road tax, the lowest BIK rates (2% for FY22/23), and low running costs.

Kia Niro and e-Niro

Kia Niro & e-Niro

Crossovers and electric cars are big business, so it's no surprise the electrified crossover Niro range does well for Kia. Available as either hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or pure-electric e-Niro, the Kia looks to suit any scenario required from potential customers.

The e-Niro is cheapest to run and has an impressive driving range with more than 280 miles on a charge possible. However, the Niro Plug-in Hybrid and Niro Hybrid offer the safety blanket of an engine to lesser or greater degrees for those regularly driving long distances.

kia sportage

Kia Sportage

One of Kia's most important and best-selling models, the Sportage was the third best-selling model in January 2022. That's impressive enough, but it's worth remembering that the Sportage is due to be replaced in the next couple of months. For a run-out model to be selling so well is practically unheard of.

The next generation version looks to build on all that the outgoing model has done for Kia, and in fact adds a plug-in hybrid option by summer for those looking for the cheapest running costs in the range. All models are electrified regardless, with mild hybrids and conventional hybrids making up the rest of the range.

kia soul ev

Kia Soul EV

Anyone who likes the performance of the e-Niro - both economy and pace - but want's a little more style is well catered for. The Kia Soul EV is now in its second phase as an electric model (third generation in all) and the boxy crossover manages to pack in the excellent EV powertrain of the e-Niro into a more fashionable skin.

With a driving range of 280 miles and ultra-rapid charging possible for drivers, the Soul EV has one of the better sets of stats in its class. The compact crossover remains relatively practical inside thanks to its boxy shape, and because of the all-electric drivetrain, still attracts the lowest BIK rates available.

kia sorento

Kia Sorento

Large practical cars remain essential options for some, and the Kia Sorento ticks both boxes. The large SUV has seating for seven and still a small load area, or fold the seats into the floor and regain a cavernous boot.

The Sorento is available with a plug-in hybrid system, which means that despite being a huge family SUV, it still attracts low running costs. Thanks to a 35-mile electric-only range, the Sorento qualifies for a 12% BIK rate (FY 2022/23), while the official fuel economy figure is more than 175mpg.

kia xceed

Kia Xceed

Kia's Xceed is a crossover version of its Ceed hatchback, only this version is available as a plug-in hybrid. It's the same system as found in the Niro Plug-in Hybrid, and here it allows for an electric only range of more than 36 miles on a charge and 202mpg on combined power.

The rest of the model is essentially a conventional hatchback only with a little taller suspension and some chunkier styling. As such, customers will get a well-built and equipped hatch, but with zero-tailpipe emission possibilities for most trips.
