Kia updates its range with special edition ‘Horizon’ trims

 Published 10th January 2024
New Launches

You’ve spent months thinking about making the switch to an EV. You’ve done the research, considered all the options, and now you’re ready to go ahead and lease yourself that brand-new car. Then along comes Kia with a massive spanner to jam up your works. The spanner in question being the new ‘Horizon’ trim level that offers you even more choice and value for money than before.

The Kia EV6 and Niro EV ranges are a big part of Kia;s global plan to have 15 EVs on sale by 2027. Both models are already available to lease in the UK, and with the introduction of the new ‘Horizon’ trim both now offer even more to anyone considering making the switch to fully electric motoring.

The recently announced special-edition ‘Horizon’ models for the EV6 and Niro EV line-ups are intended to broaden the appeal of Kia’s EV models by adding extra specification without adding too many extra pounds to the price tag. Sitting alongside the existing Niro EV and EV6 line-ups, ‘Horizon’ models will boast a comprehensive standard equipment list when deliveries start in January. And yes, January deliveries does mean Kia has already opened the order books for the new models.

So, if you were about to pick up the phone and call us to arrange your lease of a new Kia you might want to take a moment to consider one of these bonus alternatives.

EV6 ‘Horizon’

The EV6 ‘Horizon’ slots into the range between the entry level ‘Air’ model, and just below the sportier ‘GT-Line’ models. On top of the standard equipment already found in the ‘Air’ model, the new ‘Horizon’ trim adds several extra features:

  • Automatic body coloured flush exterior door handles.
  • Solar glass windscreen.
  • Dual LED headlights with adaptive driving beam.
  • Front parking sensors.
  • High gloss black door trim.
  • Driver’s power adjustable memory seat.
  • Front passenger power seat with two-way electric lumbar support.
  • Heated outer second row seats.
  • Wireless mobile phone charger.
  • Smart power tailgate.

The list price also includes premium paint with a choice of three finishes, including a new Gravity Blue option if you don’t fancy the Midnight Black or Interstellar Grey. You get 19-inch alloy wheels and an interior trimmed in artificial black leather as standard as well.

The EV6 ‘Horizon’ is based on the 225bhp rear-wheel drive powertrain paired with a long-range 77.4kWh battery pack. That equates to a range of up to 328 miles on a single charge, and as the EV6 ‘Horizon’ also offers ultra-rapid 800V charging technology, a 10-80% charge could take as little as 18 minutes if you plug it in to one of those rapid chargers while you’re out and about.

The Niro EV ‘Horizon’ also slides into the range between the entry-level and mid-level grades. Like the EV6 ‘Horizon’, it also benefits from a wide variety of additional standard equipment over the entry-level model, including:

  • LED headlights.
  • Front fog lights.
  • Rear privacy glass.
  • Electrically folding high gloss door mirrors.
  • Front parking sensors.
  • Rain sensing front wipers.
  • All-round electric windows with driver’s and front passenger auto up/down.
  • Black artificial leather upholstery.
  • Heated front seats and steering wheel.
  • Driver’s power adjustable seat with lumbar support.
  • Wireless mobile phone charger.
  • Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.
  • Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist (BCA).
  • Highway Driving Assist (HDA1.0).

Just as with the EV6, the Niro ‘Horizon’ also offers premium paint as standard, giving you the choice of Mineral Blue, Interstellar Grey, or Midnight Black, all paired with gloss black body cladding. The Niro EV ‘Horizon’ gets upgraded 17-inch alloy wheels as standard too.

Like the rest of the Kia Niro EV line-up, the ‘Horizon’ model is offered with a 64.8kWh battery pack, giving you a range of up to 285 miles on a single charge. Paired with a 150kW electric motor powering the front wheels, the Niro EV offers efficient running with smooth - and pleasantly surprisingly - spritely performance.

See, we told you Kia was throwing spanners around. You thought you’d already made this decision and now you’re wondering if you should just order one of the new ‘Horizon’ trims instead.
