Lexus partners with tennis star Cameron Norrie

Partnership

While British tennis star Cameron Norrie wasn't able to emulate last year's run to the semi finals of the Wimbledon tennis championships in the event won by rising Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz, the 27-year-old left-hander can count a new Lexus RZ 450e as his takeaway from SW17.

Great Britain's number one ranked male tennis player has just been appointed as the first UK Lexus ambassador from the tennis world.

This new relationship extends the premium brand's commitment to the sport, following its recently announced role as the Official Performance Partner and Official Automotive Partner of the Lawn Tennis Association.

Chris Hayes, Director of Lexus in the UK, commented: “Cameron was an obvious choice for us when looking to build our support for British tennis. There are clear parallels between his pursuit of excellence and dedication to his sport and Lexus's commitment to the highest standards of performance and craftsmanship. I'm sure the RZ 450e will be an ideal partner for him.”

The RZ 450e Norrie is now driving is Lexus's all-new battery electric SUV.

With a choice of exterior finishes that includes new Aether Blue metallic, inspired by blue skies, and striking Sonic Copper, the Lexus RZ 450e is a stunningly modern looking car as well as a technically brilliant one.

The RZ uses both front and rear e- Axles, which work in conjunction with the Direct4 all-wheel drive control system to adjust traction and power distribution for improved handling.

The e-Axles are quiet, efficient and deliver precise power, and with a motor on each axle there's a reasonable amount of power to deliver. The electricity comes from a 71.4kWh battery that Lexus is guaranteeing will still retain at least 70% of its capacity after 10 years driving. If you opt for a model running on 20-inch wheels that will translate to a range of around 245 miles. Choosing the smaller 18-inch wheels should see the range extended by about 25 miles.

The RZ is also fitted with an 11kW on-board charger so a proper home charger should refill the battery in around six-and-a-half hours. If you're out and about you can plug it into a fast charger and be done in half an hour.

The clever technology is also a theme on the interior, and one which complements the luxury quite nicely. Even the entry-level Premium Pack models include heated, eight-way power-adjustable front seats, Lexus Link Pro multimedia system with 14-inch touchscreen and smartphone connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, 10-speaker audio system, dual-zone air conditioning, and a rear privacy glass Panoramic roof.

Cameron Norrie is clearly pleased, tweeting: “Really pumped to join @LexusUK as an official ambassador, who share my passion in striving for excellence every day. They will be supporting me throughout the season and have been really helpful in hooking me up with a new doubles partner off the court… the all-new, all-electric #LexusRZ.”
