The MINI Clubman Final Edition could signal the end of an era

If you're thinking of leasing a MINI there's a chance you may accidentally end up behind the wheel of a small moment in history. Only a small chance though, because this particular MINI is going to be a very limited edition. In a nod to its long history, the MINI Clubman Final Edition will feature design touches that hark all the way back to the original 1969 version of the estate which featured the new squared off front styling.

It's also somewhat ominously named. The current MINI Clubman has been around since 2015, and amid all the news of the planned electrification of the MINI range there's been no mention of a replacement yet. There is a chance this celebration version of the Clubman may well be the last.

MINI Clubman Final Edition rear

The Clubman has always been the most practical of the MINIs. The signature split rear doors and increased length offers a lot more space than the rest of the range which makes it an ideal family car. The MINI Clubman Final Edition is a limited run of 1,969 units – a reference to the launch year of the original vehicle - with just 100 models destined for the UK.

The Final Edition is being offered with the Cooper S engine

It's a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 178bhp for a sporty feel without costing a fortune in fuel or emissions. There's also an exclusive trim level, and a choice of three exterior paint colours: black, white, and silver.

Regardless of the colour you choose, the Final Edition also features copper details around the radiator grille, side scuttles and Cooper ‘S' blade on the rear. The 18 inch two-tone alloy wheels have been finished in a tinted clear lacquer to give an elegant copper hue, while exclusive ‘Final Edition' lettering on the rear and ‘1 of 1969'badge on the C-pillar side complete the exterior.

This features door sill trims embellished with ‘Final Edition' lettering, also repeated on the lower spoke of the Nappa leather steering wheel. Leather sports seats – finished exclusively in Dark Maroon Leather – offer sewn-in badging, a heating function, and adjustable thigh support. Anthracite-coloured fabric inserts and blue contrast stitching complete the seat design.

You also get a Panoramic Glass Sunroof which floods the cabin with natural light, as well as darkened rear glass to ensure privacy for passengers. A dark dashboard is highlighted with trim strips finished in Sage Green and Shimmer Copper, and the passenger side is decorated with a ‘1 of 1969' badge which is also found on the floor mats.

The MINI Clubman Final Edition is based on the ‘Exclusive' trim level so it offers a high level of specification too. Included in the Final Edition are an 8.8 inch touch display with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and a Digital Dashboard. It also includes features such as Comfort Access, Reversing Camera, Parking Assistant including Front Park Distance Control, and Harmon Kardon Surround Sound.

If this is going to be the last edition of the MINI Clubman at least it's going out in a well-equipped blaze of glory. In all honesty, the chances of you getting one of the 100 models coming to the UK are pretty slim, but if you were thinking of leasing a MINI anyway you may as well try and grab yourself a MINI Clubman Final Edition.
