Citroen has scrapped sense. Not the common variety of sense, just the entry-level specification of the C1 city car. The C1 Sense is dead, long live the updated Citroen C1 Urban Ride.

Citroën has revealed details of its new entry model five-door C1 that will be available in the UK from May. The new C1 Urban Ride trim level will join 'Shine' and 'Airscape Shine' models to form a revised Citroën C1 line-up, replacing the outgoing 'Sense' trim.

The Urban Ride features a few styling tweaks over the old base-model C1. Consumers wanting to lease get new 15-inch 'Comet' wheel trims, flared wheel arch extensions and rear privacy glass, along with a decent level of standard safety equipment, such as hill start assist, emergency braking assist and curtain airbags.

Available as standard in a 'Nude' body colour, you then have the option of personalising your Citroën C1 Urban Ride in a range of tones, including Scarlet Red, Ural White, Calvi Blue and Caldera Black. An optional bi-tone Caldera Black roof adds to the Urban Ride's dynamic appearance and stylish looks.

Inside, the cabin is finished with stylish Metropolitan Grey fabric, and the leather-trimmed steering wheel and gear knob continue the new model's urban style whilst adding a little extra comfort and luxury at the driver's fingertips. The new C1 Urban Ride also allows you to enjoy a host of entertainment services through the 7-inch touchscreen, thanks to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new Citroën C1 Urban Ride comes equipped with the latest-generation naturally aspirated 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, which develops 71bhp and is available with a manual gearbox and CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

With a 0–62mph time of 14 seconds the C1 is leisurely rather than exhilarating but, more importantly, an expected economy figure upwards of 55mpg shows why performance isn't really a significant reason to choose a city car. The new trim retains all the practical agility of the C1, with a manoeuvrable 3.46m length and a turning circle of just 10.2m (between kerbs) allowing you to park easily and dart through traffic.

If you're heading down the city car route and you want something cheap and cheerful, stylish, and well equipped, the Citroen C1 is an excellent choice to begin with. The new Urban Ride trim just makes it an even more enticing lease choice for your next car.
