New L200 Mitsubishi Challenger joins the crew

New Launches

Pick-up trucks are no longer the beasts of burden they once were. It's taken some time but the American notion of a pick-up as a recreational vehicle rather than a utilitarian workhorse appears to have finally made it to the UK.

Granted the models we find in this country aren't quite on the same scale as the enormous American versions, but the basic concept of a comfortable and well-equipped truck for every day use is now well established.

The Mitsubishi L200 Challenger is a new high-specification version of the Mitsubishi L200 Series 5 pick-up that conveniently proves the point.

Based on the award winning Mitsubishi L200 Warrior the new Challenger is essentially the same underneath. The L200 Challenger utilises the same Super-Select 4WD system which allows users to change from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive using a dial-controlled selector to switch between drive modes.

It's also powered by Mitsubishi's bulletproof 180hp, 430Nm 2.4-litre turbo diesel engine, coupled with a six-speed manual or five-speed automatic and is capable of towing up to 3.5 tonnes (up to 3.1 tonnes with a twin-axle trailer) with a payload of one tonne.

All of which means as well as being a cool and trendy urban vehicle the new Challenger is still classified as a commercial vehicle with all the practical and business benefits that brings.

Although it's a slightly different story on the inside. The new Mitsubishi L200 Challenger boasts a black leather interior including an electrically adjusted driver's seat and heated front seats for great comfort.

You also get a seven-inch touchscreen display with Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility, DAB digital radio and an integrated reversing camera for ease and convenience.

Other standard features in the L200 Challenger include keyless operation, bi-xenon headlamps, LED running lights, dual zone climate control and automatic windscreen wipers, along with safety systems such as lane departure warning, hill start assist and trailer stability assistance. In terms of equipment there's nothing to choose between this and a regular car.

Mitsubishi is offering the new L200 Challenger in three colours - white, grey and black - along with black 17-inch alloy wheels and bespoke black detailing across the front grille, front bumper accents, front fog lamps surrounds, wheel arch extensions, side steps, door mirrors, door handles and rear bumper. Overall it looks very similar to the rest of the L200 series but the finer details just lift it from an everyday pick-up to something a little sleeker.

The Mitsubishi L200 Challenger is available now with prices starting from £27,705 manual and £29,105 for the automatic version. At those prices lease demand is likely to be high so it's worth getting in early to beat the rush.

Of course, if you don't fancy the extra fancy stuff you can always stick with something else from the L200 range. We have single-cab and club-cab versions available, as well as lots of double-cab options. Alongside the new Challenger variant we can offer lease deals on 4Life, Warrior, Barbarian, and Titan versions in both manual and automatic versions.
