Volkswagen has electrified its popular Tiguan line-up, adding E-Hybrid Plug-in Hybrid technology to the range. Likely to benefit business users most, the Volkswagen Tiguan E-Hybrid will provide boosts in fuel economy, emissions, and tax reductions.

Available in a choice of three trim levels, the Tiguan E-Hybrid has CO2 emissions starting from 38g/km and an electric-only range of up to 30 miles on a charge. As such, company car drivers will see an 11% benefit-in-kind (BIK) rate for entry level models, and zero-rated VED for the first year.

All models use Volkswagen's 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine, combining with an electric motor to produce a total 245hp. Fitted to Tiguan E-Hybrid Life, R-Line, and Elegance trims, changes in specification only see the latter impacted in terms of BIK rates, with Elegance models rising to 13%.

Performance figures are some of the strongest in the Tiguan line-up, with a 0-62 mph time of 7.5 seconds and a top speed of 127 mph.

Electric performance comes from a 10.4 kWh battery, which will take around three and three-quarter hours to charge from a home or public unit at up to 3.6 kW. A charge from a three-pin plug will take around five hours.

The Tiguan E-Hybrid will start in E-Mode should there be charge, aiding the official economy figure of 176.6mpg. Regular charging will be required to reach (or even beat) that figure, as with all PHEVs. With a range of 30 miles on a charge, the Tiguan E-Hybrid will more than cover the average UK daily drive of fewer than 20 miles.

Life trim kicks the E-Hybrid range off and includes climate control, adaptive cruise control, parking sensors front and rear, 8-inch Discover infotainment system with navigation, and LED headlights.

Elegance adds features such as a heated steering wheel, powered tailgate, keyless entry and start, and 10.25-inch digital driver's instruments, as well as a suite of safety systems including predictive cruise control and rear-view camera. Top of the range R-Line includes sportier styling features, 20-inch alloys, keyless entry, and digital instruments.
