New Ford Puma Gen-E adds EV efficiency to the lineup
Published 2nd January 2025
It seems like a bit of a no-brainer really: take your most popular model and give customers the option of specifying it with an all-electric powertrain for the first time. With the automotive industry slowly and inexorably heading towards an electric future, that’s exactly what the brand-new Ford Puma Gen-E is now offering.
The new Puma Gen-E represents another step in Ford’s electric vehicle roll-out, taking its place alongside the rest of the Puma range of EcoBoost hybrid models and expanding the range of options for the brand’s most popular model.
The Puma is Ford’s compact crossover model and has already established itself as a big success. It features some great design touches, a sporty driving experience, and class-leading space and practicality. It’s safe to say that leasing a Ford Puma of any description is rarely a bad decision.
While it obviously builds on the appeal of the range as a whole, the all-electric Puma Gen-E also adds a few extra touches that take advantage of the EV powertrain.
For a start, the new electric powertrain offers exceptional efficiency, delivering enough juice to cover a range of around 230 miles on a long motorway cruise. Stick to urban journeys where the speeds are lower and you can actually squeeze around 325 miles from the battery between charges. When you do need to top up the battery you’ll be able to get a 10-80% power boost in around 23 minutes from a high-speed charger. And thanks to the instant torque and quicker steering response you’ll essentially be getting an electric version of the sporty Puma ST, except this one can go from 0-62mph in just 8 seconds and all without any emissions.

From MegaBox to GigaBox
Losing the engine also means the Ford Puma Gen-E now offers even more usable space. The innovative MegaBox boot storage space has now been upgraded to the GigaBox, providing up to 574 litres of room for luggage behind the rear seats – more than some larger SUVs can offer – and a 43-litre frunk taking up the space vacated by the engine that’s ideal for storing accessories so they can be retrieved even if the boot is full.
Fans of the distinctive Puma styling will be pleased to hear the exterior design is largely untouched though. As EVs don’t require the same cooling air flow, the regular grille has been replaced with a Mustang Mach-E inspired “shield” design and there are also a couple of minor tweaks with the addition of a sporty rear spoiler and unique alloy wheel designs for the Puma Gen-E version.
The interior gets the latest Ford high-definition display screens, placed within easy reach of the driver and running the latest generation SYNC 4 infotainment system with cloud-connected navigation. Wireless connectivity and Amazon Alexa are also built into the infotainment system, and the new raised centre console provides extra storage space as well as a convenient place to locate the wireless charging pad.
There are a few extra bits of technology hiding inside the Puma Gen-E too.
A simplified electronic shifter behind the steering wheel makes switching between drive, neutral and reverse effortless and selectable one-pedal driving makes floating through city traffic even more convenient no matter which of the four drive modes you are cruising in.
Optional extras also include intelligent adaptive cruise control with stop/go function and predictive speed assist that can automatically adjust the cars speed for things like roundabouts and bends in the road ahead. You can also specify your new Puma Gen-E with a 360° surround view camera and dynamic LED headlights that monitor the road ahead, directing the light where it’s needed most and automatically adjusting the beam pattern for the best view whether driving through town or down an unlit country road.
The brand-new Ford Puma Gen-E is available to order now with deliveries beginning in spring 2025.
