BYD Atto 3 Evo adds AWD, extends range and cuts charging time

BYD has given the Atto 3 a much-needed mid-life refresh with the Atto 3 Evo. These changes to the Atto 3 will be particularly appealing to lease drivers as they enhance the car’s everyday usability rather than just its appearance.
The updated model now offers a wider range of drivetrains, including an all-wheel drive option for the first time, and has improved range and rapid charging capabilities, making the Atto 3 more competitive against other electric SUVs.
The new setup is pretty straightforward. There is a rear-wheel drive version designed for those who value range and efficiency, while a higher-output AWD version caters to customers seeking extra traction and performance. The RWD model is being hailed as the long-distance choice, boasting a quoted WLTP range of up to 317 miles. Meanwhile, the AWD version sacrifices some range for added power and grip, offering around 292 miles, which is typical when adding a second motor and boosting performance.

Charging has taken a major leap forward, as the Atto 3 Evo is equipped with an 800V electrical system and a rapid charging rate of up to 220 kW. This allows for a 10% to 80% charge in about 25 minutes, which is a direct advantage for those who frequently drive on motorways or depend on public charging stations rather than a home wallbox. Reports also mention a larger 74.8 kWh battery, supporting the improved range figures.
The Atto 3 Evo’s appeal to company car and salary sacrifice drivers lies in its ability to attract a broader audience while maintaining its value-focused position in the EV market. The increased range should ease charge anxiety, faster charging should reduce downtime on longer trips, and the addition of AWD makes it a more viable option for those who often encounter poor weather, rural roads, or simply want the peace of mind of extra traction.
The final factor will be how the UK specifications and pricing are set, but if the numbers remain reasonable, the Evo upgrade should lead to strong demand and healthy lease rentals for the Atto 3 Evo in a highly competitive market.
