Ford unveils all-new Ranger

The new Ford Ranger has been revealed. The UK's most popular pick-up gets comprehensively redesigned for its fourth generation.

Wider and with sharper design details, the new Ranger will feature the existing 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel unit - though with a few small changes - in a choice of three as-yet unconfirmed power outputs.

Ford has also announced that a 3.0 litre V6 diesel will join the ranks, as will an electrified model due within the next couple of years, most likely a plug-in hybrid option. A Ranger Raptor performance model will be launched in due course.

New transmissions are fitted to the Ranger in either five- or six-speed manual specification, or a 10-speed automatic. All models will be four-wheel drive, with a choice between an electronic shift-on-the-fly system, or a full-time four-wheel drive set-up designed for those requiring serious off-roading potential.

The new model is 50mm wider than before, which allows the load bed to take a standard full-size pallet. Nice touches have been integrated throughout focused on making life easier for users.




These include foot steps integrated into the rear side bumpers behind the rear wheels to make access to the load area easier, lighting along the sides of the load bed, exterior surround lighting, and a tailgate that can double as a workbench with integrated ruler and clamp pockets.

Ford's latest Sync 4 system has been incorporated to the dashboard in either 10- or 12-inch specification, and the driver gets a customisable digital instrument cluster. Key controls such as heating or driving modes have physical shortcut buttons for ease of use.
