Experience the new Volvo EX30 Cross Country
Published 26th March 2025
Picture waking up in a secluded cabin in Sweden and seeing the view of a frozen lake and spruce trees covered in pristine snow. The sun is just climbing above the trees, creating a display of sparkling crystals that dance in the light. As you sip on your morning coffee, the world seems quieter for a moment, as you hear only the wood crackling in the open fireplace. Oh, and there’s a brand-new Volvo EX30 Cross Country parked outside.
Apparently, the comentary is necessary because the new Volvo EX30 Cross Country is “an experience, not just a car”. If that doesn’t make you want to lease one, we don’t know what will.
Volvo clearly took it seriously too, because the new car was revealed during a cosy fireside chat at that very same secluded winter cabin in the north of Sweden. It’s essentially an EX30 with added ruggedness, making it perfect for the growing number of people who want to explore the world beyond the city.
Good for the city, good for the big outdoors
The EX30 is a small SUV that’s already ideal for life in the city. This new model offers you a variant that is equally at home on the rougher bits of the country too. The Volvo EX30 Cross Country is fully electric, with a range of around 265 miles with a charging time of 10-80 per cent in as little as 26 minutes, making it the ideal choice for a premium SUV suited to commuting as well as longer trips into the great outdoors.
Unlike a regular EX30 though, it also has several extra features that enable it to switch seamlessly between environments.
The Cross Country is higher off the ground compared with the standard EX30, allowing you to navigate rough terrain more easily. It also has bigger wheels, with the option of an 18-inch all-terrain accessory tyre to make countryside outings even easier. As well as the off-road tyres, you can also dip into the ‘Cross Country Experience’ package of accessories to add a load carrier, a roof basket, and chunky mudflaps. The new EX30 Cross Country also comes with all-wheel drive, making it more than capable of handling tough and slippery conditions.
Volvo has also added a few cosmetic enhancements to complement the more rugged persona of the EX30 Cross Country.
The front shield of the car and the boot lid get a special dark colour, with the front featuring a unique piece of artwork inspired by the Kebnekaise mountains in Arctic Sweden. Chunky and practical skid plates on the front and rear help protect the underside of the car when it’s bumping around, while the wheelarch extensions complete the look.
The EX30 Cross Country isn’t just capable either, it’s also practical, boasting all the clever tech, storage and design that made the original EX30 so popular.
Like every new Volvo, the EX30 Cross Country standard equipment includes Google built in, giving you direct access to Google Maps for those trips off the beaten track. To make sure you can get straight into a nice warm car after a long day exploring, the Volvo EX30 app also allows you to precondition your car while you’re still hiking back through nature.
Being a Volvo, you also get a whole range of safety features that will help you avoid collisions with oncoming vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists, while a driver-monitoring sensor will give you a nudge if it seems like you are distracted or tired.
A central storage tunnel between the front seats can be slid out as a cupholder for your morning coffee or your travel mug, or back if you need to store more things. There’s also a big storage compartment on the floor between driver and passenger, and the glove compartment is located beneath the centre console for easier access. Rear passengers also get a storage box that slides out from beneath the central tunnel, and that one is even removable and washable, so it can double up as a waste bin.
There are a few extra little touches of practical genius too. Volvo has replaced the door speakers with a soundbar integrated into the dashboard so there’s room for larger door pockets that hold more stuff, and there’s a handy ‘Will it fit?’ guide on the boot lid so you don’t have to stand there wondering exactly how much of your gear you can get in.
So, if you’re tempted to lease yourself an all-road car that delivers safety, comfort and performance in a capable and adventurous package, the Volvo EX30 Cross Country should be available to order very soon with deliveries starting later this spring.
