Ford is first to attain full Electric Car Grant status
Published 29th August 2025
Ford goes straight to the top of the Electric Car Grant charts with two models qualifying for the full £3,750 grant.
Both the Ford Puma Gen-E and Ford e-Tourneo Courier are the first two vehicles - and so far only vehicles - to qualify for the fully discounted amount.
Lisa Brankin, Ford UK Chair and Managing Director, said:
“We welcome the government’s decision to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and are proud that Ford’s commitment to sustainability has been recognised with the full EV grant.”
The Electric Car Grant, available for cars below £37,000, has two bands:
- Band 1 offers £3,750 for EVs with most sustainable manufacturing processes
- Band 2 provides a grant of £1,500 for models that have sustainable production methods but fall below that required for Band 1
At the same time as Ford qualified for Band 1, four more cars qualified for the Band 2 grant. These are:
- Peugeot E-308 - £1,500 discount
- Peugeot E-408 - £1,500 discount
- DS DS 3 - £1,500 discount
- DS Nº4 - £1,500 discount
It takes the total number of vehicles that are eligible for the grant to 28. The full list of qualifying vehicles can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/plug-in-vehicle-grants/cars.
“It’s really important that we now have the first vehicles making the cut for the full amount of the Electric Car Grant,” commented Rob Marshall, Operations Director of Gateway2Lease.
“It will certainly help stimulate demand for electric vehicles across the business and private sector and also benefit those drivers taking an electric car through salary sacrifice.
“What we’re waiting to see now is how the funders react in terms of any reduction in the monthly rentals of these qualifying cars.”
The government said it was investing over £4.5 billion to turbocharge the switch to EVs for both industry and consumers in order to secure the UK’s position as a world-leader in EV adoption. Britain was Europe’s largest EV market in 2024 and has seen EV sales up almost a third so far this year.
It added that more models were expected to be approved in the coming weeks as manufacturer applications were assessed against the scheme’s sustainability standards to ensure only the cleanest cars were eligible.
