Alpine A390: the electric sport fastback with everyday usability
Published 21st April 2026
If you’re looking for an electric car lease that blends performance, style, and genuine day-to-day practicality, the new Alpine A390 is likely to be one of the most intriguing choices on offer. It’s the second model in the brand’s fully electric “Dream Garage” line-up, following the award-winning A290, and it brings a very different flavour to the performance EV market — one built around agility, driver engagement, and a surprising amount of real-world usability.
It’s a flavour you can now try for yourself too. Order books have just opened for Alpine’s first five-seat sport fastback, with prices starting from £61,390 on-the-road.
So, what makes it such an interesting choice for a premium EV car lease?
Firstly, there’s the philosophy behind it. The development team has been very clear about its goal to make the A390 feel alive in a way that honours the brand’s heritage. Where many electric performance cars rely on brute force, the A390 takes a more Alpine-like approach, being built on an optimised all-electric platform and benchmarked directly against the phenomenally good A110 for feel and responsiveness. That means lightweight thinking, sharp reactions, and a focus on balance rather than straight-line numbers.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that means it’s short on power though. The GT and Premiere Edition deliver just shy of 400bhp and 0–62 mph in 4.8 seconds, while the flagship GTS pushes output to 463bhp and 824Nm of torque, cutting the sprint time to just 3.9 seconds. In other words, the new Alpine A390 is a seriously quick car with the numbers to back up its stunning looks.
The handling and agility come from Alpine’s Active Torque Vectoring system, with two independent motors on the rear axle allowing precise control of each wheel. A third electric motor on the front axle brings all-wheel drive to the party as well. It’s the kind of technology normally reserved for high-end supercars, and it gives the A390 a level of agility and driving pleasure that sets it apart from more conventional electric fastbacks.
Charging is equally impressive, with 190kW DC capability allowing for a 15–80% top-up in as little as 25 minutes. An 11kW AC charger is standard specification, with a more powerful 22kW unit fitted to the Premiere Edition or available as an option on other trims. For drivers who want a performance EV that can handle commuting, family duties, and long-distance trips, the A390 makes a strong case.

Alpine A390 - delivering on usability as well as the go-factor
Despite the obvious performance focus, the A390 is also designed to be a genuinely usable everyday car, not just an exhilarating driver’s car. It seats five, offers a generous 532-litre boot, and provides up to 345 miles of range from its 89kWh battery.
Inside, the A390 introduces Alpine’s new “feel@one” cockpit, built around two high-definition displays: a 12.3-inch driver screen and a 12-inch central multimedia system. Google built-in services, an EV route planner, and over-the-air updates come as standard, while the overall design leans into Alpine’s signature blend of sportiness and refinement. Materials, colours and stitching vary by trim, with the Premiere Edition and GTS offering more luxurious finishes and upgraded seats.
The model range is also simple and clearly defined
The A390 GT is the entry point, equipped with 20-inch wheels, adaptive LED Matrix headlights, a powered tailgate, heated Alpine Sport seats, and a premium Devialet audio system. Entry-level variants also include rear privacy glass, electric tailgate, keyless entry, and a whole suite of safety and driver assistance features.
The Premiere Edition adds a contrasting black roof, bespoke wheels in a matte black finish, upgraded Sabelt seats with massage function, and the larger 22 kW AC charger. The Premiere Edition also comes with Alpine’s Driving pack that includes active driver assistance and hands-free parking. The only downside is that production is limited to just 390 units so, if you want the Premiere Edition you’re going to have to get your order in asap.
Completing the lineup, the A390 GTS sits at the top of the range, combining all 463 of its horses with 21-inch forged wheels fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport tyres, enhanced braking performance to keep the extra power in check, and a more focused interior with Alcantara and Nappa leather trim.
From a leasing perspective, the A390 is likely to appeal to drivers who want something different from the usual premium EV choices.
Alpine describes it as a key step in its transition to a fully electric future, and one that remains centred on driving pleasure. That’s a slightly long-winded way of putting it, which might explain why Alpine also chose to sum up the A390 in words that get much closer to the point: a racing car in a suit.
It promises to be more engaging than a traditional electric SUV, more practical than a two-seat sports car, and more distinctive than many of the mainstream performance EVs currently on the market.
The combination of long-range practicality, exhilarating power, and dynamic handling makes it a compelling option for both personal and business users who want an EV with character. With sharp styling, serious performance, and a level of everyday usability that broadens its appeal, the new Alpine A390 looks set to become one of the standout electric launches of 2026.
