Electric Car Grant: Tier 2 models you can lease right now
Published 4th May 2026
If you’ve been keeping an eye on the Electric Car Grant (ECG), you’ll know that 2026 has brought a welcome boost for drivers looking to lease an affordable EV. The government’s scheme has been updated with new models added to the Tier 2 discount list, aimed at supporting vehicles that don’t quite fit the environmental criteria of Tier 1. These models offer the space, flexibility and range of Tier 1 but with a lesser amount of grant, but still, making them ideal for families and business users.
To help you understand what Tier 2 offers — and which models qualify — we’ve highlighted the key new arrivals, including the latest additions from Kia, plus a full list of every car currently eligible for the Tier 2 grant.
Tier 2 sits alongside the existing Tier 1 grant (you can read our full Tier 1 guide here), but it focuses on a different set of vehicles.
Where Tier 1 is all about compact, lightweight EVs, Tier 2 covers mid-size crossovers, family SUVs, and multi-purpose EVs that still meet the scheme’s efficiency and pricing requirements. The result is a broader, more practical set of options for drivers who want to go electric without compromising on space.
Kia has been one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Tier 2 update, with three new models now qualifying for the grant. Each one brings something different to the table, but all offer strong value, modern tech and the kind of everyday usability that makes them ideal leasing choices.
Kia EV3 and the Tier 2 ECG
The Kia EV3 is one of the most anticipated all-electric compact SUVs of the year, and its inclusion in the Tier 2 grant makes it even more appealing.
Designed as a smaller sibling to the EV6, it blends sharp styling with a practical interior and a choice of efficient battery options. It’s a great fit for drivers who want SUV versatility without the bulk of a full-size model.
Inside, the EV3 offers Kia’s latest dual-screen layout, a clean cabin design and plenty of space for families. Strong efficiency figures and competitive pricing make it one of the most accessible ways to get into a modern electric SUV — and the Tier 2 discount only sweetens the deal, with both the Air and GT-Line variants now qualifying for the £1,500 grant.
With its strong efficiency, practical interior and impressive real-world range, the EV3 was already a compelling option. Qualifying for the grant now makes it even more accessible for drivers looking to go electric without stretching their budget.
Kia EV4 and the Tier 2 ECG
Sitting slightly lower and sleeker than the aforementioned EV3, the Kia EV4 offers a stylish new take on the electric fastback crossover.
It offers a more aerodynamic profile, a sportier driving feel and a cabin that leans towards a more premium, design-led experience. For drivers who want something stylish and efficient without stepping into the premium-EV price bracket, the EV4 is a strong contender. The Kia EV4 was already eligible for the grant in Air form, but the line-up has now expanded with a new Motion grade that also qualifies for the £1,500 saving.
Positioned between GT-Line and GT-Line S, and powered by a 201 bhp motor and 81.4kWh battery, the EV4 Motion offers a higher level of equipment, including a Harman Kardon sound system, upgraded upholstery, heated outer rear seats, a surround-view monitor and blind-spot view monitor.
The EV4’s long-range battery options and fast-charging capability make it ideal for longer trips, while the Tier 2 grant helps keep monthly leasing costs comfortably in the mainstream bracket.
Kia PV5 Passenger and the Tier 2 ECG
The Kia PV5 Passenger is the most versatile of the three new additions to the list, offering a spacious, multi-purpose layout that’s perfect for families, ride-share drivers, or anyone who needs maximum practicality.
With flexible seating, a roomy cabin and Kia’s latest safety tech, it’s a modern take on the electric people-carrier — and one that fits neatly into the Tier 2 criteria, with both Standard Range and Long-Range versions meeting the scheme’s sustainability requirements. Prices start from £31,495 with the grant applied, making the PV5 one of the most affordable multi-seat electric people carriers on the market.
Its efficient powertrain and generous equipment levels make it a compelling option for drivers who want space without sacrificing running costs. With the Tier 2 grant applied, it becomes one of the best-value large EVs on the market.
