All-new Toyota RAV4 with fully plug-in hybrid line-up

All-new Toyota RAV4 with fully plug-in hybrid line-up

Published 22nd May 2026

Toyota isn’t holding back. The all-new, sixth-generation RAV4 SUV has just been unveiled, and this time the brand is fully embracing electrification: every version of the new model features a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Offering up to 85 miles of all-electric driving, a huge leap over the outgoing PHEV model, the new Toyota RAV4 boasts one of the longest electric ranges of any plug-in SUV on the market.

This is a big moment for Toyota. The RAV4 has been one of the world’s best-selling SUVs for decades, and the new model represents the brand’s latest step in its multipath approach to carbon neutrality.

The new RAV4 promises improvements across the board: better performance, better efficiency, more advanced safety tech, and a much more modern digital experience. Toyota says it has focused on refining the fundamentals that have made previous models such a success — reliability, durability, and everyday practicality — while adding the kind of tech and refinement that drivers expect from a modern car.

Electric capability for most daily driving

Rather than going fully electric just yet, Toyota is doubling down on plug-in hybrid tech, resulting in a family SUV that can cover most daily driving on electric power alone, while still offering long-distance flexibility for drivers who aren’t ready to go down the full EV route.

The headline figure is the 85-mile EV range, made possible by Toyota’s latest plug-in hybrid system. That’s enough for most of us to cover the typical commute, daily school runs, and weekend errands without using a single drop of petrol. For lease customers who want the benefits of electric driving without relying on public charging infrastructure, this is a very compelling compromise.

In terms of styling, the new RAV4 gets a sharper, more modern look for 2026, with a cleaner front end and slimmer lighting.

Toyota has kept the familiar silhouette, but the details are crisper, the grille more sculpted, the LED headlights are narrower, and the bodywork has been smoothed out for a more premium feel. Subtle tweaks to the proportions give it a slightly more imposing look, while the GR Sport model adds a sportier edge with unique styling cues and lightweight alloys.

Toyota RAV4: four trims to choose from

The new Toyota RAV4 launches with four equipment grades: Icon, Design, Excel, and GR Sport. Icon and Design models come with front-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive is standard on the GR Sport and optional on the Design grade.

The entry-level Icon model comes with an already generous equipment list. Standard features include 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and steering wheel, a power tailgate, and Toyota’s latest 12.9-inch multimedia system. A Blind Spot Monitor is also included, along with a choice of solid or metallic paint finishes. For a base model, it’s impressively complete.

Sitting at the heart of the line-up, the Design grade adds a more premium feel with 20-inch black alloys, a bi-tone exterior finish, and power-adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats with driver’s memory function. A wireless smartphone charger is also included. For anyone thinking of leasing a new SUV this year, the Design trim offers the ideal balance of price, equipment and style.

Excel variants push the RAV4 into more luxurious territory, adding leather upholstery, a head-up display, a JBL premium audio system, and an additional wireless charger. Safety systems are upgraded too, with Front Cross Traffic Alert included as standard. A panoramic roof is also available as an option for those who want a brighter, more open cabin.

At the top of the range sits the GR Sport, which brings motorsport-influenced styling and a more dynamic driving feel to the new RAV4 lineup. It features lightweight 20-inch alloys, a tuned chassis and suspension, and GR-specific design elements including the grille, steering wheel, and front seats.

With its long electric range, strong equipment levels, and Toyota’s reputation for reliability, the new RAV4 is likely to be a popular choice for both personal and business leasing customers. It offers the day-to-day benefits of an EV with the long-distance reassurance of a petrol engine, and that’s a combination that still makes a lot of sense for many UK drivers.

And with customer orders opening in May and first deliveries expected in June, you won’t even have to wait for very long if you decide to make the new Toyota RAV4 your next lease choice.
