BMW adds more economical model to iX1 line-up

Published 18th October 2023

The all-electric BMW iX1 has seen its product range almost double, with the addition of a new entry level version - the iX1 eDrive20. The EV version of its smallest SUV, BMW's iX1, is now available with a driving range of up to 296 miles on a charge.

Joining the existing xDrive30 in the product line-up, the eDrive20 is offered in Sport, xLine, and M Sport trims, with driving range varying from the headline 296 miles to 268 miles, depending on specification.

A 150 kW (204hp) motor powers the front wheels, producing 250 Nm of torque, enough for a performance time of 8.6 seconds 0-62 mph, and a top speed of 105 mph. To compare, the xDrive30 is all-wheel drive, with a combined 230 kW (313 hp); three seconds faster in the sprint, and with a maximum range of 270 miles.

Underpinned by the same fifth-generation BMW eDrive powertrain, the eDrive20 uses a 64.7 kWh battery for its near 300 mile range. This can be charged at 11 kW AC, for a full charge completed in less than 6.5 hours. Rapid DC charging is possible at up to 130 kW, which sees a 10-80% charge take less than half an hour.

The range starts at Sport trim, which includes BMW Maps, parking sensors with reversing camera, connected car services, a 10.25-inch curved driver display and 10.7-inch touchscreen system, as well as 18-inch alloys and two-zone air conditioning.

Pricing sees the iX1 eDrive20 range start at a little over £44,500 for the entry-level Sport trim - a specification that isn't available on the iX1 xDrive30 model. Comparing the xLine trims, the difference in cost is almost £6,000.

Leasing prices are now being offered on Gateway2Lease for the iX1 xDrive range. Enquiries are being taken now, with first cars expected off the production line in November.
